The OS2 BV frame series was developed in 2019 to be the first cold-formed thermally broken frame of its kind to feature a beveled exterior profile. Like its predecessor, the OS2 BV frame series combines this distinct architectural feature with all of the benefits of the revolutionary OS2 frame series. The exterior bevel particularly caters to the classic style of traditional hot-rolled steel windows popular in the late 1800’s and early 1990’s which were often putty glazed on the exterior. Today, meeting building requirements for security, energy efficiency, design loads, and air/water infiltration with the same historic metal profiles and glazing techniques is not possible. OS2 BV not only boasts the same unique exterior flare and narrow sightlines as historic windows once did, it also exceeds many of the strictest performance requirements set forth in the current building codes.
Glazing Bead Styles
The OS2 BV thermally broken steel frame series for windows and doors offers a wide variety of glazing beads (a.k.a. “glazing stops”) to satisfy nearly any architectural style. Unless indicated otherwise, all glazing beads are offered in the same materials and finishes as our OS2 BV series frames. The 6 styles (from left to right) include; Small Square (16mm wide), Medium Square (19mm wide), Rounded, Thin, Sloped, and Beveled. All bead styles can be paired with an array stylish simulated and true divided muntins for a truly personalized window or door system. We also have the ability to create custom glazing bead profiles if so required.
Material Options
One of the many ways the OS2 BV series shows its diversity is through it’s extensive line-up of material and finish options. The five (5) principal cold-rolled material types are (from left to right): Hot-Dipped Galvanized Steel with a Powder Coated finish (textured, metallic, marine grade and custom colors available), Bronze (numerous patinas available), Stainless Steel (AISI 316L with Scotch Brite finish), Cor-Ten (numerous patinas available), and Raw Steel (a.k.a. Blackened Steel) which is available in a wide variety of patinas.
Assembly Overview
The 3D rendering to the left identifies the six (6) most critical components of this superior frame assembly: (a) Glazing pocket, which accommodates a maximum glass thickness of 2” (50 mm), (b) Exterior Bevel Profile, (c) Interior Glazing Bead and EPDM gasket – the Sloped Bead is shown, (d) Interior EPDM sealing gasket with dedicated groove. (e) Structural Thermal Break consisting of polyamide and fiberglass reinforced high density polyurethane and (f) Exterior Rebated EPDM sealing gasket with dedicated groove and weep system.
Narrow Sight-line
Big performance packed into a well engineered envelope. Ideal for any style of architecture – from super sleek and modern too historic retrofits and Landmark Approvals – the OS2 BV series features a some of the narrowest sight-lines for thermally broken steel windows and doors in the world! As observed on the detail to the right, our fixed windows are capable of sight-lines as narrow as 1 1/16” (27 mm) and our casement windows are as slender as 1 7/8” (47 mm). Thermal Performance
The patented thermal break technology incorporated into the OS2 BV series – as well as many of our other frames – is one that many try to replicate, but cannot. The principle difference being that our interior and exterior steel profiles are bonded using a two (2) step process; a mechanical polyamide press fit as well as a fiberglass reinforced high density polyurethane resin which provides the non-conductive barrier as well as the structural and adhesive bond between the profiles. With that said, the OS2 BV series clocks in with an impressive average U-value of 0.28 BTU/hr*ft2F (1.60 W/m2K).
